After a third person from the audience has done this, you ask the latter to close the book and to pass it on to a fourth person on the other side of the room. You ask him to add up the three chosen numbers that were chosen at random. The astonishment of your audience knows no bounds when it emerges, shortly afterwards, that the sum of those three numbers is equal to the number that you predicted in advance.
